Photo Journal – Week #6

Should the media broadcast graphic imagery of traumatic events and situations showing personal and deep stress?  Where are our societal and cultural bounds of safety when recording these types of emotionally volatile occurrences and how does empathy factor in your role as an Artist?  Where is your threshold where you stop looking, prying, and documenting?

I always wondered how family and friends felt about images in the press that expose their grief.  Although I have not every had my own sadness documented and displayed for the world, this picture shows my son in anguish over the death of his best friend.

I felt appreciation to the newspaper for honoring this young man’s contribution to the world by sharing the events that family and friends participated in to mark their sadness at his loss.  The newspaper article helped formalize the importance of the loss …
